San Cristóbal's historic centre rewards walking. The main concentration of churches, museums, and plazas lies within a compact grid of cobbled streets between the cathedral and the Templo de Santo Domingo. Beyond the centre, the indigenous market and the amber and jade museums give a richer picture of the region's culture. Several of the best sites are on the hilltops above town, requiring a short climb.
