Templo del Sagrado Corazón

The Temple of the Sacred Heart is a 19th-century neoclassical church a short walk from the main plaza, less well-known than the Parroquia but architecturally imposing. The façade is formal and austere compared to the baroque exuberance of the older churches, reflecting the shift in taste that came with the Reform era after Mexican independence. The interior is well-maintained and used for daily Mass.

The church is worth seeing as part of a walk through the historic centre. The street it faces, lined with well-preserved colonial and 19th-century buildings, gives a good sense of the city's layered architectural history.
