The mangroves are Tecolutla's strongest draw. Small boats nose into the estuary channels around the river mouth, passing red, white and black mangroves, quiet water, and birds hunting along the edges.
The trip is simple rather than grand, but it gives the town its real character. Go early or late in the day for softer light and better bird activity.
