Playa Tecuanillo

Dark-sand beach and estuary south of Tecomán, with mangroves and birdlife nearby.

Playa Tecuanillo is a quieter beach south of Tecomán, near the mouth of the Tecuanillo River. The sand is dark and fine, the sea can be strong, and the estuary adds mangroves and birds to what would otherwise be another open Pacific beach.

It is best for a low-key day by the water rather than a resort-style beach outing. Bring shade expectations down to local palapas and simple services, and be cautious with the surf.
