Parque Teniente Guerrero

Tijuana's oldest park, with a kiosk, chess players, and a weekend book market.

Parque Teniente Guerrero is the oldest park in Tijuana and one of the few genuinely pleasant public spaces in the Centro. Established in the early 20th century, it's a shaded square with a central kiosk, benches, and a bandstand — the kind of traditional Mexican plaza that most of Tijuana's other neighbourhoods lack.

The park is most alive on Sunday mornings, when a used book market sets up around the perimeter. Chess players occupy the benches near the kiosk at almost any time of day, and the surrounding streets have some of the most interesting street food in the Centro: tamale carts, elote vendors, and churro stands do particularly good business in the evenings.

The park is surrounded by the older part of the Centro, within walking distance of Avenida Revolución. It gives a sense of what daily life in Tijuana looks like once you step off the tourist strip.
