Opened in late 2023, the Tulum station is one of the larger stops on the Tren Maya, the new high-speed rail line crossing the Yucatán Peninsula. It sits five kilometres west of the Pueblo and is reached by a dedicated taxi shuttle. The line connects Cancún and the new Tulum airport with Mérida, Campeche, and ultimately Palenque, opening up a much faster way to travel the peninsula than the bus.
Whether the train will succeed commercially or environmentally remains contested — its construction sliced through cenote systems and protected jungle, drawing fierce criticism from biologists and locals. As architecture and engineering, though, the station itself is striking: a long, curved pavilion in tropical hardwood, designed to evoke a Maya palapa. Trains run several times a day in each direction; tickets are best bought online in advance.
