Kinich Kakmó

Massive Maya pyramid in the middle of Izamal, climbable for views over the yellow city.

Kinich Kakmó is the pyramid that makes Izamal feel most unlike a normal colonial town. It rises inside the urban fabric, rough and partly unrestored, with houses and streets close by.

Climb early or late, not in the hard middle of the day. From the top, the view pulls the city together: yellow walls, low roofs, the convent, and the flat green Yucatán beyond.
