Picnic Center Beach

Big Corn's most popular swimming beach, on the southwestern shore

Picnic Center is the social heart of Big Corn's beach scene. The sand is soft, the water is calm and shallow for some distance out, and a handful of small restaurants and bars line the back of the beach selling cold Toña, fried fish, and lobster in season. On weekends the local community comes here too, which gives the place a livelier, less self-conscious feel than the typical Caribbean resort beach.

The water is clear enough for casual snorkelling, though for the better reef you will want to take a boat trip. There is no entry fee and no formal beach service — you find a spot in the sand or claim a plastic chair at one of the restaurants. The sunsets here, looking west across the Caribbean, are excellent.
