Altagracia is the second town on Ometepe, on the north-eastern shore at the foot of Concepción. It is smaller and quieter than Moyogalpa and serves as the main jumping-off point for climbs of Concepción as well as for the ferry from Granada. The central plaza has a colonial church and a small museum, the Museo de Ometepe, with pre-Columbian ceramics and statues found around the island.
The two stone statues outside the museum — pre-Columbian figures of the Chorotega culture, possibly representing deities — are the most striking exhibits. The town is also the gathering point for the Fiesta de San Diego in mid-November, the island's biggest annual festival, when traditional dances are performed in front of the church.
