Moyogalpa

Moyogalpa is the main ferry port and the largest settlement on Ometepe, on the western shore facing the mainland. It is where most visitors first set foot on the island after the hour-long crossing from San Jorge. The town itself is modest — a single main street climbing up from the dock to the central square — but it has the best concentration of hotels, restaurants, bike and scooter rentals, and tour operators.

Most people use it as a base for a day or two and then move on to quieter parts of the island. The little Iglesia de Santa Ana on the hill above the town has a viewpoint that looks back across the lake to the mainland, and the streets nearest the dock get pleasantly lively in the evening when the day's last ferry arrives.
