Playa Sardinas lies north of the main Popoyo break, a quieter stretch of coast with a mix of reef and sand that produces a more predictable wave than the main reef. The break works best on a low incoming tide and holds up to double overhead, with a right-hander that peels off cleanly on most south swells.
The beach sees fewer crowds than the main Popoyo area, and the road to reach it is unpaved — which keeps the casual visitor count low. A handful of simple restaurants and shacks near the water serve cold drinks and fried fish.
