Chorro El Macho is the easiest waterfall to reach from Anton Valley, a 35-metre cascade that drops into a green pool surrounded by cloud forest. The trail from the village centre takes around thirty minutes, passing through farmland and secondary forest before the roar of the falls announces your arrival.
The pool at the base is clear and cold enough to be genuinely refreshing rather than just pleasant. Entrance to the private reserve costs a few dollars. A zip line runs alongside the upper section of the falls if you want a different perspective — it's a short run but the view over the crater valley is excellent. The best time to visit is morning, when the mist is heaviest and the light filters through the canopy above the falls.
