Pedasí

Colonial town at the tip of the Azuero, with the peninsula's surf and its island

A small colonial town on the Pacific coast at the southern tip of the Azuero Peninsula, Pedasí is the most visited destination in Los Santos for independent travellers. It has a pretty main square, a church that dates from the colonial period, and good surf at nearby Playa Venao — which has a point break that works consistently from November through April.

From Pedasí, boats go out to Isla Iguana, a wildlife refuge with excellent coral reefs and large colonies of frigate birds and magnificent frigatebirds. The boat ride takes about 20 minutes and can be arranged from the beach. Whale watching tours run from August through October when humpback whales migrate through the surrounding waters with their calves.
