The Asomante battlefield and trenches mark one of the important Puerto Rico campaign sites of the 1898 Spanish-American War. The place is not heavily developed for visitors, but its ridge-top setting makes the military logic obvious.
The view south across the mountains and coastal plain is half the experience. It is a good reminder that Aibonito's landscape is strategic as well as pretty.
