Aibonito sits high in Puerto Rico's Cordillera Central, cool enough to feel like a different island from the coast. Locals call it Puerto Rico's Garden, and the name fits: nurseries, flowers, mountain air, and steep roads shape the town more than beaches or nightlife.
The headline natural sight is San Cristóbal Canyon, one of the island's great inland landscapes, with waterfalls and deep green walls between Aibonito and Barranquitas. Closer to town, Piedra Degetau and the Asomante area give broad views over the south.
Aibonito is strongest as a mountain day from San Juan or Ponce, especially if the flower festival is running. It is not polished, but it has a clear place identity and enough real anchors to justify the climb.
