Things to Do

Isla Verde lives around its beach. The wide, palm-backed strip of sand is the best urban beach in the San Juan area — the water is clear, the waves are gentle enough for swimming but interesting enough for surfing, and the whole thing is right there when you step off the plane. Pine Grove Beach, the public section at the eastern end, is the go-to spot for local surfers.

Beyond the beach, the resort strip along Avenida Isla Verde has the big hotel casinos. For something livelier, Piñones is a short drive east — a stretch of public beachside kiosks serving fried alcapurrias and bacalaitos with cold Medalla, the kind of place that feels genuinely Puerto Rican rather than resort-packaged.
