Richmond Beach is the long dark-sand bay at the end of the leeward coast road, at the foot of La Soufrière. The sand is volcanic black, the surf can be heavy, and the view inland from the beach is straight up the green flanks of the volcano. It is rarely crowded — most days you might share it with a few fishermen pulling in nets.
The beach also serves as the trailhead for the western route up La Soufrière, which is steeper but more dramatic than the eastern approach from Rabacca. Swimming is fine in calm weather but the undertow can be strong; ask locally before going in. There are no facilities — bring everything you need.
