St George's Cathedral

St George's is the Anglican cathedral and the oldest church in Kingstown, completed in 1820 in pale yellow stone with Georgian arched windows and a square tower. The interior is plain by cathedral standards — whitewashed walls, dark wooden pews, a few memorial plaques to colonial-era officials and clergy — but the stained-glass window installed in 1985 in memory of Queen Victoria is the unusual draw. The original was made for St Paul's Cathedral in London but rejected; it eventually found its way to Kingstown.

The cathedral is normally open during daylight hours. The graveyard outside, where many of the island's 19th-century planters and administrators are buried, is worth a slow walk if the church door is locked.
