Trinity Falls

Trinity Falls is a three-stage waterfall in the northern interior, fed by the headwaters of the Richmond River. The hike in is the appeal as much as the falls themselves — about 45 minutes through dense rainforest from the trailhead above Richmond, crossing the river several times and descending into a steep gorge. The pool at the base of the lowest fall is deep enough to swim in and the water is cold.

Access changes with the weather and with the state of the road above Richmond; ash damage from the 2021 eruption made the trail temporarily impassable. Check locally before setting out, and consider a guide — the path is not always obvious and the river crossings can be tricky after rain. Bring sturdy shoes; flip-flops will not survive the descent.
