Mudjin Harbour

Mudjin Harbour is the most spectacular landscape feature on Middle Caicos — a large cove on the north coast where the sea crashes against dramatic limestone cliffs and a natural rock arch stands guard over a small protected beach. The contrast between the turquoise calm of the inner cove and the white Atlantic surf breaking on the headlands is striking.

From the top of the limestone bluffs above the harbour, there are panoramic views along the north coast in both directions. The walk up takes fifteen minutes and is worth doing even if you don't swim. The beach below the arch is accessible by a path cut into the cliff. There is a small restaurant at the top of the cliff — one of very few places to eat on the island.

A story
The limestone arch at Mudjin Harbour was formed by wave erosion over thousands of years as the sea level fluctuated — the same process that created the caves inland. The beach inside the cove is sheltered from the open Atlantic swell by the surrounding headlands, creating a pool of calm water despite the dramatic scenery.
