Lake Catherine is a hypersaline lagoon in the centre of West Caicos, protected as a nature reserve and one of the more reliable places in the Turks and Caicos to see West Indian flamingos. A small breeding population works the lagoon edges; depending on the season you may see a few dozen or several hundred birds.
The lake is also a roost for ospreys, ibises and migrating shorebirds. Visiting means a short walk inland from the western shore, usually arranged as part of a dive-boat itinerary from Providenciales. There is no infrastructure and almost no shade; bring water and binoculars.
