A small green square on Wood Avenue at the centre of downtown Florence, Wilson Park is the social heart of the city in fair weather. It hosts the Shoals Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings, the Tuesday First Fridays art walk in summer, and the W.C. Handy Festival's free concerts in late July.
The park has a 1922 bronze fountain at its centre and is ringed by the brick buildings of the historic district. It is also where the public library and the visitor centre sit, making it the practical first stop for orientation.
