Bryant-Denny Stadium

If you are in Tuscaloosa on a home football Saturday in the fall, the stadium experience is worth having even if you have no particular interest in American college football. The pre-game tailgating on the Quad begins early in the morning, the energy by kickoff is genuine and loud, and the scale of the whole operation — more than 100,000 people gathering for a college sports event — is extraordinary to witness.

Outside game days, the stadium and its surroundings are open for wandering. The Paul W. Bryant Museum, adjacent to the stadium, covers the history of Alabama football in exhaustive detail. Stadium tours are available on non-game days.

A story
Bryant-Denny Stadium holds over 100,000 people and regularly sells out for home games of the Alabama Crimson Tide. The stadium is named after two former university presidents, but everyone refers to it by the first name. Bear Bryant coached Alabama here for 25 seasons and won six national championships. His statue outside the stadium entrance is the most photographed object in the city.
