Denny Chimes is the visual anchor of the University of Alabama Quad, a 115-foot campanile that has become shorthand for the campus itself. Built in 1929 and named for university president George H. Denny, it is more than a bell tower: its carillon still marks the day with music.
For visitors, it is a quick but worthwhile stop while walking the university grounds, especially if you are already seeing Bryant-Denny Stadium or the museums nearby. The handprints and footprints of Alabama football captains around the base add the local ritual that makes the tower feel distinctly Tuscaloosa.
