President's Mansion

Greek Revival university residence that survived the burning of the University of Alabama campus.

The President's Mansion is one of the most historic buildings on the University of Alabama campus, a Greek Revival residence completed in 1841 and still used as the official home of the university president. Its survival matters: much of the campus was burned during the Civil War, and this house is one of the clearest architectural links to antebellum Tuscaloosa.

Most visitors see it from the outside while walking the Quad and nearby campus landmarks. It is worth that short detour if you are already at the university, especially for the contrast between the mansion's formal white portico and the larger, busier football-and-student life that now defines campus visits.
