Downtown Tuscaloosa Historic District

The Downtown Tuscaloosa Historic District preserves a concentration of 19th- and early 20th-century commercial buildings around the intersection of University Boulevard and Greensboro Avenue. Most are brick commercial buildings from the 1880s to 1920s, now occupied by restaurants, bars, and small businesses.

The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It anchors the city's walkable core and is within easy distance of the Bama Theatre, Capitol Park, and the riverfront. The Black Warrior River runs along the northern edge of downtown, and the riverfront area has been developed into a strip of outdoor spaces and the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheatre.
