By air. Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) has daily flights from Anchorage (about an hour), Seattle, and Minneapolis. Alaska Airlines and Delta are the main carriers. In summer, additional seasonal routes open up. The airport is a 10-minute drive southwest of downtown.
By road. The Parks Highway (AK-3) connects Fairbanks to Anchorage, about 360 miles south — a six-hour drive through some of Alaska's best scenery, passing the turnoff for Denali National Park. The Alaska Highway (AK-2) arrives from the east via Canada, ending at its Mile 1523 marker in Fairbanks. The Richardson Highway (AK-2 south) connects to Valdez. The Dalton Highway heads north from Fairbanks to Deadhorse and the Arctic Ocean — 414 miles of gravel that is one of America's great road trips.
By rail. The Alaska Railroad runs between Anchorage and Fairbanks, with a stop at Denali. The full run takes about 12 hours and is worth doing for the scenery alone, particularly the stretch through the Alaska Range.
