Harvard Glacier

Tidewater glacier in College Fjord, the largest glacier in Prince William Sound's university-named group.

Harvard Glacier is a tidewater glacier at the head of College Fjord in Prince William Sound, about 120 miles east of Anchorage. It is the largest of the glaciers in the fjord, which takes its name from an early 20th-century tradition of naming the area's glaciers after Ivy League universities.

The glacier is most commonly seen from cruise ships, which pass through College Fjord as part of Alaska Inside Passage itineraries. Passengers watch for calving events as chunks of ice break off the glacier face and crash into the fjord. Kayakers also reach the glacier from Whittier, though it requires several days on the water and experience with tidal glaciers.
