The Tok Cut-Off is the 125-mile stretch of road that connects Tok with Gakona Junction on the Richardson Highway, opening up the southern route toward Valdez and, via the Glenn Highway, Anchorage. It is one of the most scenic drives in interior Alaska and most people underestimate it.
The road skirts the northern edge of the Wrangell–St. Elias National Park, with views across the upper Copper River valley to Mounts Sanford, Drum, and Wrangell. There are roadhouses at Mentasta and Slana, a turn-off for the rough road into McCarthy and Kennicott, and almost no traffic. Allow at least half a day; it deserves more.
