Stone County Courthouse

The Stone County Courthouse is a small two-storey brick building on the south side of the square, completed in 1922 in a restrained Classical Revival style and still in active use as the county seat. The pediment, the symmetrical sash windows, and the modest cupola fit the small-town civic scale of Mountain View perfectly — this is not a courthouse trying to be a cathedral.

It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the interior — when open during weekday business hours — has its original wood and the murals on its courtroom walls. Even closed, the building anchors the square, and its broad porch is one of the natural places to sit and listen to the musicians gathered on the lawn below.
