The Commercial Hotel is a substantial three-storey brick hotel building on the north side of the courthouse square, dating from the early 20th century and the most prominent commercial building in the historic downtown. It was the principal Mountain View hotel for travellers passing through on the railway and old highway business, and it still operates in some form as a guesthouse today, with rooms updated but the lobby and street-front largely original.
For a casual visitor it is worth a brief stop to see the brick facade, the original window proportions, and the lobby — even if not staying overnight. Combine with a circuit of the square and the other listed storefronts.
