Walt Disney Studios Campus

Walt Disney's Burbank campus has been the creative heart of the studio since 1940, when Disney moved here from his original Los Angeles location. The main campus on Alameda Avenue is not open to public tours, but the surrounding streets offer worthwhile views of the distinctive buildings, including the celebrated Team Disney Burbank building where the Seven Dwarfs hold up the roofline.

The Disney Studio Store on the campus perimeter is accessible to the public and stocks a range of Disney merchandise and collectibles. The campus sits on a tree-lined block that has changed relatively little since the golden age of Disney animation — the original animation building where Fantasia and Dumbo were made still stands inside the lot.

A story
The most famous architectural feature of the Disney campus is the Team Disney Burbank building, designed by Michael Graves and completed in 1991. Seven large sculptural figures of the Seven Dwarfs serve as caryatids holding up the pediment of the building — a postmodern joke that Disney has maintained with complete commitment for over 30 years. From the street, the effect is both absurd and strangely wonderful.
