Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour at 3400 Warner Blvd is the best studio tour in Los Angeles — a genuine behind-the-scenes experience at a working studio rather than a theme park recreation. Small groups travel by open-air vehicle through the backlot, stopping at active soundstages, the famous outdoor sets (the Central Perk exterior from Friends, the New York street sets), and the Warner Bros. Archive with props and costumes from DC Universe, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones productions.

The tour includes the Storytelling Showcase, a new indoor exhibit on Warner Bros. history, and the interactive finale, Action and Magic Made Here. Book in advance — popular times sell out. The tour runs Monday through Sunday starting at 8:30am, and lasts about three hours. It's expensive, but it's the real thing.

A story
Warner Bros. has been at its Burbank lot since 1943, when the studio moved from its original Hollywood location. The lot's backlot streets have stood in for New York, small-town America, and fictional cities in hundreds of productions over eight decades. When you walk the same streets used in Casablanca, Friends, and The Dark Knight, the layers of cinematic history accumulate in an oddly moving way.
