Coyote Point Recreation Area

Bay-side park with beaches, trails, a marina, and views across to San Francisco

Coyote Point Recreation Area is San Mateo County's main waterfront park, sitting on a small peninsula that juts into San Francisco Bay about two miles north of downtown Burlingame. The park has a small beach, a marina, picnic areas, and walking trails along the water with views north to San Francisco and the Bay Bridge.

The CuriOdyssey science center and wildlife sanctuary occupies the southern end of the park, with exhibits oriented toward children and a collection of native California animals including mountain lions, bobcats, and native birds. The museum also has outdoor exhibits covering the Bay Area's ecology and natural history.

The point has consistent bay breezes that make it popular with windsurfers and kite surfers. On weekends, the picnic areas near the water fill with families from the Peninsula. It is a good place to get a sense of San Francisco Bay outside the city — the water looks very different from the east side, and the tidal flats at low tide are important shorebird habitat.
