Hearst San Simeon State Park begins just north of Cambria and protects rocky coastline, riparian habitat, wetlands, and rare coastal terraces. It is easy to miss if you are rushing toward Hearst Castle, but the park is better for a quiet walk than for a checklist.
The San Simeon Natural Preserve trail runs through coastal habitat with overlooks and interpretive panels. It pairs well with Moonstone Beach on a slow day, especially when you want the Central Coast scenery without committing to a long hike.
