The Coastal Discovery Center is a modest but useful stop near San Simeon Bay, run with a focus on the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the local coast. Exhibits cover tide pools, marine mammals, kelp forests, and the human history of this stretch of shoreline.
It is not a substitute for getting outside, but it is a good context stop before the beach or after Hearst Castle, especially with children or on a foggy day.
