Mechanics Bank Arena (formerly known as Rabobank Arena and Dignity Health Sports Park) is Bakersfield's main indoor venue for concerts, sporting events, and large-scale entertainment. The 10,000-seat arena sits just east of downtown near the Amtrak station and hosts the Bakersfield Condors ice hockey team (AHL), along with touring concerts, rodeos, and motorsports events that Meadows Field Airport and the smaller venues in town cannot handle.
For visitors, the arena is most useful as a reason to be in Bakersfield on a specific weekend rather than a destination in itself. The Condors play a full AHL season from October through April, and a minor-league hockey game here is a genuinely good evening — the crowd is engaged and the arena is the right size for the sport. Check the schedule before arriving; the calendar varies considerably by season.
