Mill Creek Linear Park

Mill Creek Linear Park runs along the Mill Creek waterway on the eastern edge of downtown Bakersfield. The park stretches for about a mile through a narrow green corridor between the city centre and the Highway 178 bridge. It is a modest urban amenity — a paved path, lawns, and some tree cover — but in a city where green space in the downtown core is thin on the ground, it serves as a decent walking route and a place to escape the heat in the shade of mature trees.

The park hosts occasional outdoor events and community gatherings in the sections near the downtown end. The creek itself is a managed watercourse rather than a wild stream. For visitors, it is primarily useful as a walkable connector between the downtown hotel district and the Amtrak station area. Do not go out of your way for it, but it is worth walking if you are already in the area and the weather is bearable.
