Applegate Park Zoo is a small family stop in Merced, focused mostly on native animals that cannot be released back into the wild. It is modest, but useful if you are travelling with children or want a short outdoor break in town.
Do not expect a large city zoo. The appeal is its easy scale, rescue-animal focus, and location inside Applegate Park.
