Ridgecrest is on U.S. 395's desert side routes, reached by car from Mojave, Inyokern, or the eastern Sierra corridor. Public transport is limited enough that most travellers should assume they need their own vehicle.
Distances look simple on the map and feel longer on the ground. Carry water, keep fuel in mind, and do not treat minor desert roads as casual shortcuts in summer.
