Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake is not a normal visitor attraction, but it is impossible to understand Ridgecrest without it. The base covers an enormous desert area and supports weapons research, testing, and evaluation for the Navy.
Most travellers will experience it indirectly through the town, the museum, and the military presence on local roads. Do not assume access is possible; treat it as context rather than a sightseeing stop unless you have arranged permission.
