Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary

Small zoo for rescued wildlife that cannot be returned to the wild

A small zoo in Folsom City Park that specialises in animals that cannot be returned to the wild — rescued or injured wildlife rather than animals bred in captivity. It is modest in size but genuine in purpose, and makes for a relaxed hour, particularly with children.

Residents have included black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, red foxes, and birds of prey — all animals that were brought in after injury or illegal keeping and judged unfit to survive in the wild. Admission is inexpensive and the grounds double as a pleasant park. Located at the corner of Natoma and Stafford Streets in the city park. Phone: 916/351-3527.
