Amador County Museum

The Amador County Museum is housed in a brick house built in 1859 on a hill above downtown, with views over the rooftops to the surrounding pine ridges. The collection focuses on the county's mining and pioneer history: photographs of the Argonaut and Kennedy mines, Mi-Wuk basketry, Chinese-Californian artefacts, period rooms, and a large working scale model of the Kennedy Mine headframe built by a retired engineer.

The museum is small, free, and run mostly by volunteers — hours are limited (typically a few afternoons a week) so check before visiting. It sits at 225 Church Street, a short walk uphill from the Main Street historic district.
