The Red Church is one of Sonora's easiest landmarks to spot, a steep-roofed Gothic Revival church painted a deep red at the edge of the old downtown. In a Gold Country town of brick storefronts and sloping streets, it gives the skyline a sharp, memorable accent.
It is a quick stop, but a useful one if you are walking Sonora rather than just driving through. Photograph it from the street, then continue into Washington Street for the town's shops, saloons, and Gold Rush-era texture.
