Bishop is 3 hours north of Los Angeles via US Highway 395, which runs through the Owens Valley between the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin. From San Francisco, the drive takes about 5 hours via Highway 50 or 80 through Tahoe, then south on 395. There is no rail service.
Eastern Sierra Transit runs bus service between Reno and Lone Pine via Bishop, with connections to Mammoth Lakes. LADOT Commuter Express runs a limited service to Lancaster and the Los Angeles area. Most visitors arrive by car — the Eastern Sierra is car country and getting to trailheads, bouldering areas, and the bristlecone pine forest requires your own transport.
