Twin Lakes

Two glacially carved lakes at the foot of the Sawtooth Ridge, about 10 miles south of Bridgeport along Twin Lakes Road. The lower lake is stocked with brown and rainbow trout; the upper lake sits beneath the rugged peaks of the Hoover Wilderness and draws serious anglers after large brown trout. Twin Lakes Resort rents boats and fishing tackle.

The setting is dramatic — sheer granite walls rise straight out of the water on the southern shore, and Barney Lake trail begins here for those wanting to push deeper into the wilderness. There are campgrounds at both lakes, with the upper sites more scenic and harder to book in summer.
