Bridgeport

Eastern Sierra ranching town used as a base for Mono Lake, Bodie, and Twin Lakes.

Bridgeport is a small ranching town in the Eastern Sierra, sitting in a wide valley at around 1,950 metres. It serves as a convenient base for exploring some of the most striking landscapes in California — Mono Lake and the ghost town of Bodie State Historic Park are both an easy drive away.

The town itself is quiet, with a handsome 19th-century courthouse and a handful of motels and diners catering to fishermen, hikers, and hot spring seekers. Twin Lakes, just south of town, offers good trout fishing and a scenic campground beneath the Sawtooth Ridge.
