Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe sits on the Nevada side of the Tahoe high country, close enough to Reno to make it one of the easiest resorts in the region to reach from the airport. Its calling card is elevation: the base is higher than any other Tahoe ski area, which often helps snow conditions when lower slopes around the lake are getting soft.
The resort is smaller than Heavenly or Palisades, but it has enough steep terrain, fast laps, and lake-and-desert views to justify a day, especially if you are staying on the north or Nevada side of Tahoe. It feels less like a village resort and more like a mountain you come to ski hard, then leave for dinner somewhere else.
