The Pinecrest Lake Loop is the best way to turn the lake from a picnic spot into a half-day outing. The trail circles roughly five miles around the shore, with changing views across the water and a stop at Strawberry Dam.
It is usually described as easy, but do not treat it like a paved promenade. Rocky sections, mud after rain, and slippery spots near the dam make decent shoes worth having.
