The San Bernardino County Courthouse is a Classical Revival building at 351 N. Arrowhead Avenue, built in 1927. The imposing columned facade is one of the most recognizable landmarks in downtown San Bernardino and typifies the civic ambitions of California county seats in the early twentieth century.
The building stands near the heart of downtown, within walking distance of the California Theatre and the civic core. Its architecture is unapologetically grand for a city that was, at the time, a key railroad and agricultural hub — the scale makes sense when you remember that San Bernardino County is the largest county by area in the contiguous United States.
